Palo Alto HS student kidnapped and sexually assaulted
Okay, this scares me and happened very near here.
As a parent when Annabelle was a younger child, I did my unfair share of needlessly worrying about kidnapping and other media-induced parental fears. After all, Annabelle was the same age as Jean Benoit Ramsey when all that horror happened in Colorado.
But with
each birthday and move up the growth chart, you start to be lulled into
thinking that the dangers of these scary things lessen as your child
becomes bigger, stronger and more autonomous. That's a false
assumption. Unfortunately.

Though I've talked with her- and she, like Cas has been trained to get the upper hand on any attacker. Aaron too would beat the shit out of anyone that tried to grab him.
Unfortunately, there's no way to guarantee that anyone will not be hurt/ abducted/ raped/ molested/ killed by a psychopath. I think about that when I walk through urban areas alone at night. Age doesn't make much difference except in the preference of the attacker and the relative savvy of the potential victim.
On the other hand, when you look at these fear-provoking headlines and think about the likelihood of such an attack, the odds are really good. Any individual is probably as likely to win the lottery. Over 99% of this fear is wasted, but the other 1% is a good thing, since there are real risks out there.
