Palo Alto HS student kidnapped and sexually assaulted

My sister is 16 and goes to school at Menlo. So scary.
Yeah, there are some scary things happening out there. I was shocked and saddened when I read about the Craigslist-related murder near Minneapolis.
I don't think the fear ever really goes away in today's society. You always hope that you will eventually reach that point when you don't need to worry, but there will always be stories like this for all ages. Ugh.. how depressing is that?
this is the kind of stuff that made me worry about AB walking home from school....

Though I've talked with her- and she, like Cas has been trained to get the upper hand on any attacker. Aaron too would beat the shit out of anyone that tried to grab him.

Unfortunately, there's no way to guarantee that anyone will not be hurt/ abducted/ raped/ molested/ killed by a psychopath. I think about that when I walk through urban areas alone at night. Age doesn't make much difference except in the preference of the attacker and the relative savvy of the potential victim.

On the other hand, when you look at these fear-provoking headlines and think about the likelihood of such an attack, the odds are really good. Any individual is probably as likely to win the lottery. Over 99% of this fear is wasted, but the other 1% is a good thing, since there are real risks out there.

A nurse I used to work with had told her daughter to get off her bus at her drop off and no where else, she got off the bus with a girlfriend down the street from an adult nightclub and walked her home well my friend was at the regular drop off and no daughter got off. She was upset then so angry when she finally found her daughter at the friends house. She kept saying I just wanted to walk my friend home, she never thought of the potential danger.
the palo alto pd called and left messages on answering machines about it and warned people about halloween. still i was surprised at how many people came to my door that were in high school and that were clearly without parents.
