I started another batch of my delicious and potent homemade limoncello today from the lemons off the backyard tree. (Those of you lucky folks on my gift list will know that starting a batch of limoncello today means tasty presents in a few months.)
The tree was overloaded so I picked a ton of them last week and left them in a basket on the table outside. The process of peeling the zest off the lemons is the only really sucky part of making limoncello. You can't get any bit of the white part of the peel in the batch or the brew will turn out bitter. So today, instead of working on my presentation for Ad Tech, I decided to peel the lemons (and plant some flowers, and bake cookies, and make homemade lemonade and run to Safeway and the bank and...)

After about the 20th lemon, I pulled out this strange fellow from the basket. It looks to me to be a cross between a trussed Thanksgiving turkey, a Dr. Suess elephant and a yellow squid.
