So far, everyone I know and love in Minneapolis/St. Paul is okay.
(There is one person who has not yet returned my email or phone call, but I'm going to assume the best).
Thanks everyone who asked.
My brother-in-laws post from last night.
And Dan's post made the [this is good] selection this week. :-)
My wonderful brother-in-law got out the snow blower, the shovel, the scraper and the brushes and dug us out from under the snow this morning.
Some people weren't so lucky (see the tragic story in today's paper).
These photos look like black & whites -- but this is just the "color" of Minnesota this time of year.
Yes, don't worry, I have pulled over to write and send this. Same goes for the last post, which was sent only AFTER I got safely to Joanie's big party.
Now I am back on the road inching my way ever so slowly and safely back to my sister's place in a freakin' snow storm...No, make that a blizzard!
I only drive and blog in California; mamma didn't raise no complete fool people! Though I am really and truly touched by your concern for my on road safety.
Love,
the ex-Minnesotan
The forecast calls for 10 to 17 inches of snow this weekend, I'm getting on a plane for the Twin Cities this afternoon, apparently just ahead of the "storm of the season", but they always say that, right?
I hope my rental car has heated seats and excellent traction.
I think I'll pack my boots along with this big bag of lemons I cut from the tree out back this morning. Fresh California lemon in some hot tea seems like something the friends and family will welcome.
I'm back Tuesday night. Assuming good travel weather!
If you are, then you should read this. Here's the links to an in-depth analysis of the sale of the StarTribune newspaper to an investment group.
The main story is written by my friend Steve Perry, editor of the alt weekly City Pages.
It was last week's cover story for those of you in the Twin Cities who might want to grab a copy before the new issue comes out Wednesday.
Strib staffers discuss their reactions - they were pissed

15 StarTribune reports try to predict the future.
City Pages was an early blog adopter, even using MT as their platform, so if you're interested in the buzz on this, here's also a link to the comment thread.
And here's an interesting response from the Strib's publisher in Editor & Publisher.
I know there are a few current and former Minnesotans in my Vox neighborhood and I wanted to point out a "Voxer" who's doing a weekly New Minnesota Music posting. I just discovered her Vox blog somehow this week when I was back home and thought some of you might like to add her to your neighborhoods or add these posts to your tag feeds [1].
Her Vox name is Purple PEZ and she's done nine posts tagged "Minnesota Music Fridays" so far.
[1] What's a "tag feed"? I find it a really really easy way to follow posts made outside my neighborhood. It's sort of like a "Google Alert" for Vox tags that can be read right there on the Vox Watch page. I'm linking here to the Vox Knowledge Base where about midway down the page you can read about how to set up a Tag Feed. But basically hover over any tag on any thing on Vox and click "Add To Tag Feed" and it appears on your Vox Watch page. It's handy and I don't think it's used a lot because people don't know about it.
According to Forbes magazine, Minneapolis/St. Paul is the country's second most drunken city?
Say what?!
Milwaukee was number one. Rounding out the top five drunkest cities are Columbus, Ohio; Boston and Austin, Texas.
