I'm not a big Tom Hanks fan ( I did love "Philadelphia"), but I thought this was very well done.
I think Tony pegs where I get hung up on Hillary Clinton. Read his take on her candidacy here. And for the record, I'm still undecided.
Watching the "West Wing" always used to both fascinate and frustrate me, much like my college political science classes. On the one hand I would be inspired, fired up and ready to rally the masses for the ideals of democracy and justice. On the other hand, I'd look at the reality behind the rhetorical and rallying cries and I'd want to start shooting people.
The last season of the West Wing just made me sad (oh and of course lust after Jimmy Smits) because we had such a boob in the "real" White House and there weren't any viable candidates who could come close to the fictional Matt Santos.
But perhaps I was too quick to jump to fatalism...he's no Jimmy Smits and McCain is no Alan Alda, but...
I'm not yet taking sides, but being torn is benefiting both candidates because tonight I made a contribution to both the Clinton and the Obama campaigns while procrastinating on work I should be doing.
While on each of their websites I was reminded of how impressed I was by both Obama and John Edwards for being all over the social networking and social media sites. For a time I even had them both as Flickr and Twitter friends, but the updates got to be too much, so I dumped them both.
Obama's official website is better (easier navigation, more information, more professional and less political looking) than Clinton's, but her Facebook site' is better than his, in my professional opinion.
I love how both of them really know how to use video to it's full potential for connecting one-to-one. There's BarakTV and HillaryTV chock full of videos. I especially liked The Hillary I Know, which also has it's own URL.
Hillary's official head shot, which I'd not seen before, is pretty amazing and makes for a beautiful portrait. Can I use this Richard Phibbs to take my next set of PR photos?
I am not sure who my pick is between Obama and Clinton. I do think it's wonderfult that instead of having a choice between two underwhelming or unpalatable candidates, the Democrats seem to be down to two candidates of equal strength and appeal to more than just Democrats. Two candidates that have a chance of being history-making Presidents.
You might be surprised to learn that have always had very mixed, but mostly negative, feelings about Hillary Clinton. I thought Bill Clinton was smart, genuine and good for the country. But there's something about her that does not ring true to me. She comes off as political in the worst sense of that word.
And yet, the idea of a woman President of the United States...how come that's still not happened yet?! Then tonight I see this clip from the last debate between Obama and Clinton and I think...hmmmm...maybe she should be the one. At least both of them can speak in public and not sound like the jackass we've had in the White House for the past 7 years.
When was the last time George Bush got a standing ovation?
